Yorktown was the site of the siege and subsequent surrender of General Charles Cornwallis to General George Washington and the French Fleet during the American Revolutionary War on October 19, 1781. It essentially ended the war, though smaller skirmishes continued for a couple of years thereafter.

This is the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown.

Just outside of the Yorktown museum, there are some cool outdoor exhibits. Here is a campsite of American soldiers during the war.

Jamestown was the first permanent English settlement in North America, in 1607. It was named after their King, James I.

Here are demonstrations of the local Powhatan Indians, who the first English settlers met, and of course had conflicts with.

These are recreations of the 3 boats that made the initial trek, called: Susan Constant, Godspeed & Discovery.

James Fort is another recreation of what the original fort probably looked like. There were about 100 original settlers.
