Belgrade, Serbia has been at the crossroads of many battles over the centuries. It was a fascinating and fitting entry point into the diverse and complex Balkan region.

 

 

  Pobednik is a monument in the Upper Town of the Belgrade Fortress, built to commemorate Serbia's victory over Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian Empire during the Balkan Wars and the First World War.

 Belgrade Fortress, is an imposing fortress at the confluence of the two rivers. Many of the walls have been destroyed and rebuilt. Traces of the original fortress date back to the year 535!

 Karadjordje Steak is considered to be a traditional Serbian dish. It is made of pork steak stuffed with crème fraiche, that is breaded and fried.

 Hotel Yugoslavia. In its heyday, It hosted many famous guests, including Queen Elizabeth II, Richard Nixon, Jimmy Carter, Buzz Aldrin, and Tina Turner. It was formerly a five star hotel. Now it’s a run down 3 star discount hotel.

 Belgrade has plenty of old communist brutalist style buildings.

 The Genex Tower (1979).

 Belgrade has a fantastic downtown with many pedestrian streets.

 Saint Sava Temple is one of the largest Eastern Orthodox Churches in the world. It was constructed from 1935 to 2004.
