This is Namibia's sand dune area, which is fantastic for dune lovers like myself!

We're up before sunrise for a climb. Dune 45 is a star dune in the Sossusvlei area of the Namib Desert.

It's cold. It's a winter desert morning, probably around 45 degrees F.

The funnest part is running down the dune.

Sossusvlei is a salt and clay pan surrounded by high red dunes.

It used to be lush here, until the sand dunes took over.

Big Daddy is the highest dune in the Sossusvlei area; it is about 325 meters high. I wish we had the time to hike it.
