Split is fantastic. The city center features a Roman palace that has evolved into a continually inhabited space that is still being used today.
Split is the second most populated city in Croatia (After Zagreb).
This is a model of Diocletian’s original Palace. The palace was built in about 10 years (finished in the year 305 AD).
Living history on top of ancient history. I love that people still live among these structures, created during Roman times. Many of the current houses were built much later.
Peristil, the inner courtyard at Diocletian’s Palace has been a people’s meeting point for centuries!
The arched entryway is an original wall from the year 305!
