Hiroshima is a modern city, rebuilt upon the ashes of destruction. It is both a sobering and enjoyable destination.


In front of the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum.

This is the scale of the bomb that hit the city in August of 1945.

These designs are all made out of paper cranes. The paper crane is the symbol of peace in Hiroshima.

This building, The Atomic Bomb Dome, survived the blast. It is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Hiroshima Castle.

Taking a ferry to Miyajima Island.

Itsukushima Shrine. During low tide, you can walk right up to it.

These lovely people served me okonomiyaki (Japanese pancake).

They even made me a few peace cranes.
